The Blunder of Eli Soriano

“The Blunder of Mr. Soriano in the Bible”
Soriano said in his Radio Program

1. The Sabbath is for the Israel only, because only in this generation the Lord made covenant.   Not to their parents but for them only. Soriano uses the Bible also like Satan but twisted the bible to their original meaning.

                    Deuteronomy 5:3 “The
LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.”

So, meaning SDA or all Christians should not keep the Ten Commandments because the covenant made only to Israel not to the Christians nor to Seventh0day Adventist.

BURDEN OF PROOF
by Dr. Rey Medina and Nelven Alavanza

1.Mr. Soriano, you mean to say all the nations, all the tribes, all the race of the people what so ever, they have no law particularly the Ten Commandments?
      a. If that is true we as Filipinos do you mean Mr. Soriano we can commit adultery, murder, gambling all the sin that we can commit in the Covenant, written in Stone?

2. Mr. Soriano, you mean the parents of Israel or the People before the Israel did not obey the law of God particularly the Ten Commandment or the Covenant written in Stone?
(Like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob before the Mt. Sinai etc.)

Exposition Answer
by Pastor Gideon Durante

Question before we explain Deuteronomy 5:3
How the Lord made the Ten Commandments or the Covenant? Written in stone or not?
Answer: Written in the Stone!

 Correct!

The Meaning of Deuteronomy 5:3 that the covenant did not made to the father (HINDI PINAGTIBAY SA ATING MGA MAGULANG)
mean it is not written in the stone before the parents of Israel like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Only in their times that God wrote the Ten Commandments using his own finger Exodus 31:18.
But that is not mean, they are not obey the Ten Commandments.

Here is the proof that Abraham obey the Covenant or the Ten Commandments before Mt. Sinai!
       Genesis 35:2
Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

As you can see this text the command of Jacob is same in the command in the covenant written in stone.

Exodus 20:3 Thou shall have no other gods before me.
Meaning before Mt. Sinai the law about Thou shall no other gods before is already practice by Jacob and his entire household. Another law the second law we found in
Gen 31:19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

Genesis 35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

That is also written in Exo 20:4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exo 20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

So, meaning before Mt. Sinai before God wrote the ten commandments in the stone there is start of obeying it!

Look also Gen 26:25 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.
Genesis 6:25 show us that Isaac mention the name of the Lord not in vain but in connection in the altar! In the Ten Commandments here it is Exo 20:7 Thou shall not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

The Fourth Commandment says,
Exo 20:8  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Before that God give us example before the Mt. Sinai!

Gen 2:2  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
The Fifth Commandment
Exo 20:12  Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
IF Soriano is very true to his Doctrine meaning to say Jacob did not obey his mother and father because the commandment Honour thy Father and thy Mother is for Israel only according to Bro. Soriano.
But he is very wrong because according to the Bible Jacob obey his Mother and Father!
     Gen 28:7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;
Sixth Commandment

Exo 20:13
  Thou shall not kill.
IF Soriano is very true to his Doctrine meaning to say Cain should not curse by God by Killing his brother Abel! Because the commandment Thou shall not kill is for Israel only according to Bro. Soriano. Not for their father nor for the Christians!

Gen 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
Gen 4:9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
Gen 4:10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Gen 4:11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
but as you notice, God curse Cain by killing his brother! Meaning in the time of Cain and Abel killing is not good! It is sin against God!
Seventh Commandment
Exo 20:14  Thou shall not commit adultery.
IF Soriano is very true to his Doctrine meaning to say Abimelech is wrong when he said it is sin to have sex in the women who had a husband because the commandment Thou shall not kill is for Israel only according to Bro. Soriano. Not for their father nor for the Christians!

but read the Bible how Abimelech talk to Abraham that he is angry because Abraham lied that Sarah is not his wife!
Gen 26:10  Abimelech said, "You have done a bad thing to us. One of our men might have had sex with your wife. Then he would be guilty of a great sin."
it is very clear that in the times of Isaac, Rebecca and Abimelech it is sin to commit adultery!
Another point that Soriano lied to the people, that his doctrine is not in the Bible, he put only his own interpretation rather than the interpretation of the bible!

Eight Commandment
Exo 20:15  "You must not steal anything.

->IF Soriano is very true to his Doctrine meaning to say Jacob is wrong when he said those who steal that is not belongs to you will be killed. Sa taglog pa. (mamatay ng nagnakaw) because the commandment Thou shall not steal is for Israel only according to Bro. Soriano. Not for their father nor for the Christians!
but the Doctrine of Soriano is very far to the bible!

Gen 31:30
I know that you want to go back to your home. That is why you left. But why did you steal the gods from my house?"
Gen 31:31  Jacob answered, "I left without telling you, because I was afraid. I thought you would take your daughters away from me.
Gen 31:32  But I did not steal your gods. If you find anyone here with me who has taken your gods, they will be killed. Your men will be my witnesses. You can look for anything that belongs to you. Take anything that is yours." (Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen Laban's gods.)
It is very clear before the Mt. Sinai before God wrote the Ten Commandments to steal is a sin!
Ninth Commandment
Exo 20:16  "You must not tell lies about other people.
->IF Soriano is very true to his Doctrine meaning to say Abimelech is wrong again when he said that lies is not good work, when Abraham lied about his wife Sarah because the commandment Thou shall not steal is for Israel only according to Bro. Soriano. Not for their father nor for the Christians!
but the Doctrine of Soriano is very far to the bible!
Gen 20:5  Abraham himself told me, 'This woman is my sister,' and she also said, 'This man is my brother.' I am innocent. I did not know what I was doing."
Gen 20:9  Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, "Why have you done this to us? What wrong did I do to you? Why did you lie and say that she was your sister? You brought great trouble to my kingdom. You should not have done this to me.
It is very clear that lie is not good and it is sin against God! Before the Mt. Sinai.

Tenth Commandment
Exo 20:17  Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Before the MT. Sinai covetousness is hated by God and the people in that time..
Exo 18:21  Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

In the Bible verses that we read it is very clear that in the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Ten Commandments has a starting point. Before it was made in the two tables of stones in the Mt. Sinai written by the finger of God!

The Second point is this
the Word made the covenant or “pinagtibay ang tipan” in the Hebrew word “karath-berith” or other word the covenant was made the KJV is correct also with this translation. There is promise between God and Israel.

Exo 19:5  Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
Exo 19:6  And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Exo 19:7  And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
Gal 3:17  And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
that is the covenant .

How the covenant made or to be strong?
By Blood Sprinkle
 Exodus 24:8 and
by writing on the stone Exodus 31:18.

The Word made the covenant o pinagtibay ang tipan does not mean during that time only the Ten Commandment Exist! Before the Mt. Sinai the Ten Commandments is existed already. (See the txt above)
So, we can conclude that the teaching of Soriano is not true it is all lie and does not biblical sound!

Sabbath Cooking

Question:
Is it a sin to cook during Sabbath?
      according to E.G White

Those who neglect to prepare for the Sabbath on the sixth day, and cook food upon the Sabbath, they violate the fourth commandment, and are transgressors of the law (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, pp.253-254)

Answer:
Before we conclude we need to know the context of the writings of Mrs. White and the Bible.
First, we need to know the context in the bible about violating the fourth commandment by cooking on the SABBATH.
CONTEXT: The quail-manna experience of Israel in the wilderness. Exodus 16:23 God required them to bake, and seethe food on the sixth day. THEY COMMIT SIN if they bake and seethe on the Sabbath day.
The question is Where was the setting of this command? answer: In the wilderness! SO, what is the point? because in this same wilderness context God gave the other command, that is, "Let no man go out of his place on the seventh day (v. 29). Furthermore, in Exodus 35:3, the Lord says, "you shall kindle no fire in all your habitations. what is the punishment of those people who violate this command?
Numbers 15:32  Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found
a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day.  33  And those who found him gathering
sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation.  34  They put him
under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him.  35  Then
Yahweh said to Moses, "The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation
shall stone him with stones outside the camp."

According to the BIBLE. The command ""let no man go out of his place on the seventh day,"  DOES NO APPLY anymore to Israel when they reached Canaan or when they stayed in other lands. They could go out during the Sabbath day without violating the Sabbath command. (2 Kings 11:9) in the new testament (Acts 16:13).

And the captains ouer the hundreds did according to all things that Iehoiada the Priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the Sabbath, with them that should go out on the Sabbath, and came to Iehoiada the Priest. 2 Kings 11:9

Act 16:13  And on the Sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither

COOKING FOR SABBATH
in the Writings of Mrs. White

The command is, "Bake that ye will bake today, and seethe that ye will seethe; for tomorrow is the rest day of the holy Sabbath." That day is not to be given to the cooking of food, or pleasure seeking, or worldly employment. Explain your work and its purpose to your children, and let them help themselves and their parents in their preparation to keep the Sabbath according to the commandment -- Bible Echo, February 13, 1899).
The cooking may be so planned as to give the workers more advantages of the meeting than they have usually enjoyed, and on the Sabbath, in particular, their duties should be made as light as possible. We should have sympathy for those who are confined to the hot kitchen, engaged in the preparation of food, and should be willing to deny ourselves unnecessary luxuries for their sake. . .
The Sabbath should be as sacredly observed on the camp-ground as it is in our homes. We should not let the bustle and excitement around us detract from its sacred dignity. No cooking should be done on that day. The instruction which God gave to Israel should not be disregarded: "Bake that which ye will bake today, and seethe that ye will seethe;" for "tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the Lord." Ex. 16:23. God meant what he said when he gave these directions; and shall we, who are presenting to the people the claims of the divine law, break that law ourselves, merely to please the appetite? -- God forbid. There has sometimes been almost as much cooking done on the Sabbath as on other days; and the blessing of God has been shut out by our failure to honor him in keeping the Sabbath according to the commandment.
All needful preparation should be made beforehand. On Sabbath morning, if the weather is cool, let hot gruel, or something equally simple, be provided, and for dinner some kind of food may be warmed. Further than this, all cooking should be avoided as a violation of the Sabbath command.
All needful preparation should be made beforehand. On Sabbath morning, if the weather is cool, let hot gruel, or something equally simple, be provided, and for dinner some kind of food may be warmed. Further than this, all cooking should be avoided as a violation of the Sabbath command -- Gospel of Health, April 1, 1898).
Speak not lightly of the restrictions placed upon Israel in Sinai regarding the cooking of manna. The Lord has placed barriers around his Sabbath, that it may not be regarded with the least carelessness or irreverence. When the Lord said, "Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath: bake that which ye will bake today, and seethe that ye will seethe," he meant that Friday should be our preparation day, in which we are to do all our cooking. The Sabbath is not to be a day when titbits shall be prepared or cooked. If it is really essential to have beans on the Sabbath, let them be cooked on Friday, and kept warm in the oven. They need not be eaten cold unless preferred. But let no remarks be made as though it were a very light thing whether or not we regard the special requirements of God in regard to the Sabbath. It is not left for any man or woman to venture to disregard one requirement of God.
I see no question in this matter as to what we shall have on the Sabbath day. The food which we have provided on the preparation day can be placed on the table warm, especially in cold weather. In traveling, persons eat cold lunches for days together, and realize no inconvenience or harm. We want palatable, healthful food every day of the week; but upon the Sabbath, let your cook have her day of rest, in the place of cooking for a family. Let every provision be made on Friday. But do not let the Sabbath be regarded as a day in which to get something especially gratifying to eat. Educate your children and every member of the family to enjoy plain, simple food, and to be ready to receive the blessing which the Lord of the Sabbath is waiting to bestow upon all who are in an attitude to receive it. He has this for every one who shows his love for God in keeping holy the Sabbath day, God's great memorial of creation. Speak softly, walk softly. Let not a word of lightness or trifling come from your lips. This is God's day. He has blessed the seventh day, as his Sabbath, to be sacredly observed -- Review & Herald, June 8, 1897.
The Lord gave the children of Israel explicit instructions prohibiting unnecessary labor upon the Sabbath. "Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the Lord. Bake that which ye will bake today, and seethe that which ye will seethe." Carelessness in the observance of the Sabbath has crept in among us as a people. Many have sought to please themselves rather than to honor God. If we would enjoy the blessing of the Lord, the Sabbath-day must be kept holy. All cooking should be done on Friday. On the camp-ground, when the mornings are cool, hot water or hot gruel should be provided. In winter, at our homes, the food previously cooked should be warmed before it is eaten. In warm weather this is unnecessary. Divine mercy has directed that the sick and suffering should be cared for; the labor required to do this is a work of necessity, and no violation of the Sabbath -- Signs of the Times, May 25, 1882.
On Friday let the preparation for the Sabbath be completed. See that all the clothing is in readiness, and that all the cooking is done. Let the boots be blacked, and the baths be taken. It is possible to do this. If you make it a rule, you can do it. The Sabbath is not to be given to the repairing of garments, to the cooking of food, to pleasure seeking, or to any other worldly employment. Before the setting of the sun, let all secular work be laid aside, and all secular papers be put out of sight. Parents, explain your work and its purpose to your children, and let them share in your preparation to keep the Sabbath according to the commandment -- Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 355, 356 (1901).
While cooking upon the Sabbath should be avoided, it is not necessary to eat cold food. In cold weather let the food prepared the day before be heated. And let the meals, though simple, be palatable and attractive. Provide something that will be regarded as a treat, something the family do not have every day -- Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 357 (1901).

Notice that Mrs. White is in the direction of the Scripture that those command, "Let no man go out of his place on the seventh day" did not take effect anymore after the wilderness context. even the command, "you shall kindle no fire... on the Sabbath day" Exodus 35:3 did not extend to the land of Canaan.

"During the sojourn in the wilderness the kindling of fires upon the seventh day had been strictly prohibited. The prohibition was not to extend to the land of Canaan where the severity of the climate, fires was needed for warmth
(Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 409)

The Command in the Exodus 35 and other related passages regarding Sabbath cooking or kindling fire and Let no man go out of his place on the Sabbath.  "defends on situations."

Let us examine the context why in the times of Mrs. White the prohibition of Sabbath cooking still persists?

ANSWER:    Because  of the aspect of cooking common to both the wilderness generation and E.G White's generation. That is, cooking takes a lot of work when they had to bring in firewood into the kitchen to stoke wood burning ovens. Ellen G. White has reported that in her time "Women spend a great share of their time over a heated cook-stove, preparing food, highly seasoned with spices to gratify the taste. (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 4, p 132).
This background of laborious work in cooking justifies of E.G White's statement that "those who... cook food upon the Sabbath, they violate the fourth commandment, and are transgressors of the Law." (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, 253-254). but, "in cold weather the food prepared the day before should be heated" (Ministry of Healing, p. 307).

Why is heating the food on the Sabbath legitimate? because in just heating the food they spend much lesser time and lesser labor than in preparing the food. Since preparing the food on Sabbath takes time and labor, so, cooking on the Sabbath, is a transgression of the law, at that time.

But now our cultural and economical situations differ from that of the wilderness generation and that of E.G White's. cooking on the Sabbath now does not spend much time and no longer laborious by using electric stoves and gas ranges.
Conclusion:
Cooking on Sabbath is a SIN! If you are using the same method of cooking in the wilderness that takes time and laborious and in the time of Mrs. White. but if it is not laborious and not taking much time it is not a sin!
The command do not cook on Sabbath, Let no man go out to his place during Sabbath are defends on situations. They are applicable not in all places and ages. as long as it is not laborious but in the context of Mrs. White it is a Sin!
But if our conviction, it is a sin to cook on Sabbath prepare it on Friday! but if you will insist that this must be followed strictly, then you should follow the command that you will not go out during Sabbath!
As Seventh day Adventist who follow the Bible, may God guide us that we should not break the principle of "rest on the Seventh day.
